About the Dog Park
Rowlett Dog Park, located in Tampa, FL, is a spacious and well-shaded haven for dogs and their owners. The park features two separate areas for small and large dogs, each equipped with agility courses and plenty of open space for play. With ample seating, picnic areas, and nearby restrooms, it’s a convenient and enjoyable spot for a day out. The community of dog owners is friendly, and the park is well-maintained, though some areas could use better upkeep.
Fencing
- Separate Areas: The park is divided into two sections: one for small dogs under 20 lbs and another for larger dogs, ensuring a safe environment for all sizes.
- Secure Fencing: The fencing is generally secure, but there have been reports of maintenance gates being left loose, which has allowed dogs to escape on occasion. Owners need to remain vigilant and check the gates before letting their dogs off-leash.
- Gate System: The park uses a double-gate entry system, which helps prevent dogs from running out when new visitors arrive. This adds an extra layer of security, especially during busy times.
Distractions
- Agility Courses: Both sections have agility courses with ramps, tunnels, and other obstacles that can keep dogs entertained and physically active.
- Toys: While there are some toys left behind by other visitors, they may not be in the best condition, so it’s advisable to bring your own if your dog enjoys playing with them.
- Other Dogs: The park is popular, so there’s usually a good mix of dogs to socialize with. However, some owners have reported occasional issues with aggressive dogs, which can be a distraction or concern.
Amenities
- Water Fountains: There are dog-level drinking fountains available in both sections of the park, ensuring your pet stays hydrated during playtime.
- Seating Areas: Plenty of benches and picnic tables are scattered throughout the park, many of which are shaded by large, mature trees, making it a comfortable place to relax.
- Playground and Restrooms: A playground for children is within view, and restrooms are located nearby, making it a convenient spot for families.
Pricing
- Free Entry: Rowlett Dog Park is a public park, so entry is free for all visitors. The city provides amenities like poo bags and water fountains, contributing to a pleasant experience without any additional cost.
Cleanliness
- General Cleanliness: The park is generally clean, with regular maintenance addressing issues like broken equipment or overgrown areas. However, there are reports of wasp nests and screws sticking up on agility boards, which indicates that some areas could benefit from more frequent upkeep.
- Waste Management: The park is equipped with several bag stations to encourage owners to clean up after their pets, and most visitors seem to adhere to this rule, keeping the park pleasant for everyone.
Hazards
- Maintenance Issues: Some users have reported loose maintenance gates and minor hazards like wasp nests or exposed screws in the agility equipment. These issues highlight the need for caution and proactive communication with park maintenance.
- Mud Puddles: During the rainy season, certain areas of the park can collect muddy water, which might be a delight for some dogs but can be a hassle for owners trying to keep their pets clean.
Extras Rules
- Dog Aggression: While the park generally attracts well-behaved dogs, some owners have noted that aggressive dogs occasionally return despite past incidents. A clear sign discouraging the return of aggressive dogs could help maintain a safer environment for all visitors.
- Leash Rules: The park has clear leash rules, and most owners seem to follow them. Keeping dogs on a leash when entering or leaving the park area is crucial for safety.
Community Safety Rules
- Friendly Community: The park is frequented by a friendly community of dog owners who are generally respectful and responsible. Most owners are quick to correct their pets’ behavior and are mindful of others, creating a welcoming atmosphere.
- Safety Precautions: Visitors are encouraged to monitor their dogs closely, especially around other pets and near the maintenance gates, to ensure everyone’s safety.

2 years agoAwesome spot to bring your pet and relax. Most people have trained dogs here and they get along with each other well 👍🏾!! Today was very chill, only a few dogs in the park and very well behaved. Large area for dogs to play. A few toys left behind if you want to risk it 🤣.
