About the Dog Park

Arbor Dog Park, located at 1405 N Grant St, Longwood, FL, is a well-loved spot for both dogs and their owners. Known for its spacious layout and friendly community, the park offers separate areas for large and small dogs, ensuring a safe environment for all. Shaded by trees and equipped with amenities like water stations and benches, it’s a haven for pups to run and socialize. Despite occasional hazards, it remains a favorite due to its cleanliness, welcoming atmosphere, and ample space for dogs to play.

Fencing

  • Secure Enclosures: The park is divided into two distinct sections—one for large dogs and one for smaller breeds. Each area is securely fenced, offering peace of mind to dog owners. The fencing is of adequate height to prevent even the most agile dogs from jumping over.
  • Double-Gated Entries: Each section features a double-gated entry system, which helps prevent dogs from escaping when new visitors enter. This setup adds an extra layer of safety, ensuring that dogs remain within the designated areas.
  • Quick Escape Gate: A quick escape gate between the large and small dog areas is a thoughtful addition, allowing for easy exits if needed. This is particularly useful in case of any unexpected scuffles between dogs.

Distractions

  • Natural Environment: Arbor Dog Park is a natural playground, with plenty of grass, trees, and open spaces for dogs to explore. The large trees not only provide shade but also attract squirrels, offering an engaging distraction for the dogs.
  • Other Dogs: The park is frequently visited by a variety of friendly dogs, providing ample opportunity for socialization. The community here is known for being welcoming, with dogs and owners alike enjoying the company.
  • Nearby Train: A train passes by the park occasionally, which can be a loud distraction. This might be unsettling for dogs that are sensitive to loud noises, so owners of such pets may want to plan their visits accordingly.

Amenities

  • Water Stations: The park is well-equipped with water stations, including a sprayer to clean dogs and drinking fountains suitable for both dogs and humans. These stations make it easy to keep dogs hydrated and clean, especially after a vigorous play session.
  • Benches and Shade: Plenty of benches are available for owners to relax while their dogs play. The park is also well-shaded, thanks to the numerous trees, making it a comfortable spot even during warmer days.
  • Waste Management: Poop receptacles are conveniently placed throughout the park, though it’s recommended to bring your own waste bags. The availability of trash cans ensures that the park remains clean and pleasant for everyone.

Pricing

  • Free Access: Arbor Dog Park is a public park, so there’s no fee required to enter. This makes it an affordable option for regular visits, allowing dog owners to bring their pets as often as they like without worrying about the cost.

Cleanliness

  • Well-Maintained Grounds: The park is generally kept clean and well-maintained, with regular upkeep to ensure the environment remains pleasant for both dogs and their owners. The grass is in good condition, and the shaded areas help keep the ground cool and comfortable.
  • Hazards: However, visitors have noted the presence of broken glass, ceramic pieces, and airsoft gun pellets in both the large and small dog areas. While the park is mostly clean, these hazards can pose a risk, so it’s important for owners to stay vigilant and inspect the area before letting their dogs run free.

Hazards

  • Sharp Objects: As mentioned, broken glass and ceramic pieces have been found in the park. These items can be dangerous for dogs, especially if they step on them or try to eat them. It’s crucial to keep an eye on your dog and the ground during your visit.
  • Aggressive Dogs: While most dogs and their owners are friendly, there have been occasional reports of aggressive behavior from certain dogs. Staying near your pet and being aware of their interactions with other dogs can help prevent any unwanted incidents.

Extra Rules

  • Supervision Required: Owners are encouraged to supervise their dogs at all times. Given the presence of potential hazards and the occasional aggressive dog, staying close to your pet ensures their safety and the safety of others.
  • Bring Your Own Bags: While poop receptacles are available, it’s recommended to bring your own waste bags to ensure you can clean up after your dog promptly.

Community Safety Rules

  • Respect Others: The park thrives on its friendly and welcoming atmosphere. It’s important for all visitors to respect each other and their dogs. Ensuring that your dog is well-behaved and not overly aggressive helps maintain the park’s positive environment.
  • Report Hazards: If you come across any hazardous materials like broken glass or sharp objects, it’s important to report them to park authorities or clean them up if possible. This helps keep the park safe for everyone.

I enjoyed having a sprayer to clean the dogs, people have left drinking bowls and there are different drinking fountains that can be used by all. Poop receptacles but bring your own bags. Plenty of tables and shade, places to run. The dogs we met are friendly. They have a tree that looks like it has a dog head growing out of it by the picnic table!

Great park but beware! A few others and I have found a lot of broken glass , ceramic pieces and airsoft gun pellets.( In both the large and small dog park. ) Haven't had any problems with any aggressive dogs besides a black standard poodle and a few pit bulls that get too riled up. Stay near your dog if youre not used to the park cause some people will let their dog continue biting aggressively and have no care for it. Other than that the people and dogs are usually a great and fun crowd to hang around with.

I always bring my 2 dogs here, and the park is more than big enough for them to run around! They recently added an improved water station, where you can either hose off your dog(s) or refill a water bowl fairly quickly. The park has plenty of trash cans for waste, baggies for pick up, water bowls, and benches
