About the Dog Park

Charlie Frias Park, located at 4801 S Decatur Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89103, is a versatile and expansive park nestled in a large ravine. The park boasts a variety of amenities including a running track, playgrounds, dog parks, splash pads, and picnic areas. Despite its beauty and potential, the park faces challenges with cleanliness, safety, and maintenance that need to be addressed to ensure a pleasant experience for all visitors.

Fencing

  • Dog Parks: The dog parks have designated areas for small and large dogs, ensuring safety and space for pets to play.
  • Playgrounds and Splash Pads: These areas are enclosed to keep children safe while they play and to prevent dogs from entering.

Distractions

  • Unleashed Dogs: Some visitors bring unleashed dogs, causing discomfort and fear among other park-goers.
  • Homeless Presence: Homeless individuals often utilize the park’s amenities, which can be distracting and uncomfortable for some visitors.
  • Loud Barking: Instances of unattended, barking dogs in the dog park can be a nuisance to those nearby.

Amenities

  • Playgrounds: Varied climbing structures and a splash pad cater to children and parents.
  • Running Track: A 2/3-mile track with a slight uphill gradient is ideal for exercise.
  • Calisthenic Area: Designed for parents and fitness enthusiasts.
  • Dog Parks: Areas for both small and large dogs, with real grass and nighttime lighting.
  • Restrooms: Located near the dog park, though their condition is often criticized.

Pricing

  • Free Admission: There is no cost to enter and use the park, making it accessible for everyone.

Cleanliness

  • Restrooms: Often reported as dirty, with issues of being locked or misused by homeless individuals.
  • Tables and Benches: Frequently dirty and chipped, requiring better maintenance.
  • General Upkeep: Visitors sometimes neglect to clean up after their dogs, impacting overall park cleanliness.

Hazards

  • Unleashed Dogs: Pose a risk, especially to those with past negative experiences with dogs.
  • Locked Restrooms: Encourage inappropriate use of bushes for relieving oneself.
  • Lack of Shade: Limited shaded areas due to over-trimmed trees.

Extras

  • Picnic Areas: Numerous tables, some covered, for gatherings.
  • Water Relief Area: Includes splash pads for cooling off, though occasionally shut off in hot weather.
  • Scenic Views: Offers great views and sunsets.

Rules

  • Dog Leashing: Clear rules for keeping dogs leashed to ensure safety and comfort for all visitors.
  • Restroom Use: Need for better enforcement and maintenance to prevent misuse.
  • Cleaning Up After Pets: Encouraged but not always followed by visitors.

Community Safety Rules

  • Security Presence: Limited security patrols; increased checks could improve safety and compliance with park rules.
  • Maintenance: Regular upkeep and cleanliness checks are needed to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all.

Charlie Frias Park offers a variety of amenities that cater to families, fitness enthusiasts, and pet owners. However, issues with cleanliness, safety, and maintenance detract from its potential. Addressing these concerns could significantly enhance the park’s appeal and safety for all visitors.

Separate areas for large and small dogs. How many reviews have you sifted through looking for that? If you are like me, it has been quite a few. So many people want to tell you things like how their dog got muddy (really? gosh, that's neat.) or how it got into a "scrap" with another dog (does that really have anything to do with the park, or with the people at the park that one time they were there?) That said, it was good to see some grass. If your dog is picky about it's "business" like mine are, a nice patch of grass in the middle of the desert is a welcome oasis! (An interesting side note, at each of my several visits, there was ALWAYS someone there just hanging out in their car. Not creepily, but something one can't help but notice when someone is parked next to you, windows down. Just hanging out. Then again, it actually may be creepy.)

Nice park the lower part holds soccer games and much more and then the upper part off decator has a water park, play ground, tennis courts, dog park, a cool little field for the kiddos, places to sit. And the entire park is a walkers adventure. But I worn everyone now the bathrooms are 🤢 and there are some homeless hanging around but more on the lower side of the park. But they don't mess with anyone unless messed with themselves. But I would say it is a safe park

Every morning btwn 6am and 7am someone leaves their 2 very large barking dogs in dog park alone who bark at everyone trying to use dog park or walking by. Literally no one is in there with them nor controlling their bad behavior.See pic. Quiet place to hang. Water park, dog parks, play areas on north side are decent. Bathrooms could use better upkeep. Great views, sunsets. 8/28/22 water park shut off for last week or so. Temps over 100 and no place to cool off. Why?? Trees trimmed too much, very little shade unless you stand on the hot side walk. 9/26/22 now the rest rooms are locked 24/7. WTH! Kids and adults now peeing in bushes! Why punish everyone for a handful of people acting like uncivilized animals. How about security doing some drive through checks every once in a while?! Seen security one time in 3 months.

Beautiful park but some visitors are not responsible enough to clean after their dogs ,and also some people bring unleashed dogs and it’s very uncomfortable to walk around. I personally scared from unleashed dogs , I was beaten from a dog , end up in emergency. Since then I’m very concerned and scared. The bathrooms are in terrible condition, dirty . I saw homeless people using it all the time for their all kinds of needs , washing stuff ets. Maybe they should clean it after but I guess they don’t care! Hope that this beautiful park can be maintain better and make it safe for everyone.I truly believe that the park management can do something about it asap
