About the Dog Park
Thelda Williams Paw-Pup Park is a charming, small dog park located in the heart of downtown Phoenix at 200 W Jefferson St. Despite its size, it offers a convenient spot for local dog owners to let their pets run off-leash, socialize, and burn off energy. While it lacks extensive amenities and parking can be challenging, the park is well-maintained and provides a shaded, safe space for dogs and their owners.
Fencing
- The park features a secure double-door entrance through a container box, which adds shade and prevents dogs from escaping easily.
- The fencing ensures that dogs can safely roam off-leash without the risk of running into traffic or other hazards.
Distractions
- Some users have reported issues with drunks and stoners in the area, which can be a distraction and a safety concern.
- The park’s proximity to ongoing construction can also be a source of noise and distraction.
Amenities
- Poop bags are plentiful, ensuring that pet owners can clean up after their dogs.
- A water faucet is available, but it leaks and creates muddy patches, so bringing your water bowl is recommended.
- Recent additions include park benches, though shade is limited and there is no specific training or agility equipment.
Pricing
- The park is free to use, making it an accessible option for residents looking for a cost-effective place to exercise their dogs.
Cleanliness
- The park is consistently praised for being clean and well-maintained.
- Users appreciate the efforts to keep the area tidy, although the leaking water faucet can create muddy areas.
Hazards
- The leaking water faucet can create muddy and slippery patches.
- Issues with local homeless populations and individuals under the influence can pose safety concerns outside the park boundaries.
Extras Rules
- The park is closed for renovations periodically, so checking for updates is crucial.
- Despite posted signs and website information, the park closes earlier than stated, usually around 7 or 7:30 PM.
Community and Safety Rules
- The park fosters a friendly community where dog owners can chat and socialize while their pets play.
- Dog owners are expected to clean up after their pets and ensure their dogs are well-behaved to maintain a pleasant environment for all visitors.
Thelda Williams Paw-Pup Park offers a convenient and clean spot for downtown Phoenix residents to let their dogs play off-leash. While it has some limitations, such as size, parking, and occasional safety concerns, it remains a valuable resource for local dog owners. The park’s secure fencing, cleanliness, and community atmosphere make it a worthwhile visit for those living nearby, although it may not be ideal for a longer drive due to limited amenities and parking challenges.

a year agoThis is a nice, small park in the middle of down town Phoenix. Contrary to a lot of other peoples' reviews, it is still open (It is across the street from the city Courthouse near the old city hall). It is quite small but still enough area for dogs to run around unleashed and play with other dogs. The busiest and best times to go from what I have seen regularly are usually around 9am and 6pm, especially during the summer and hot months. It is important to know two things about this park however; 1. Despite the county website AND the posted sign at the park about it closing at 8PM, the city locks it at 7 or 7:30PM every day regardless of whether it is being used or not. (This is why I gave 4 stars instead of 5). 2. It is going to be closed for renovations from November 21, 2022 - December 21, 2022. They have been renovating all of the other parks around the city and did so with no notice or "hours of operation" changes online. What you read online about the hours of operations are not updated and you should understand the two points above before getting in your car or walking 5 blocks and realizing the hard way. I definitely recommend this park if you live nearby. Worth it for a few blocks walk but NOT worth a 10 minute drive or more since there is hardly anywhere to park nearby.

7 months agoLess crowded than the Margaret Hance dog park. Good shade from the buildings in the evening. The only issue is the water faucet leaks and makes the ground muddy. Bring your own bowl.

4 years agoGreat little dog park in the middle of downtown Phoenix. They have plenty of poop bags and a water faucet for your thirsty pups...just bring a bowl. I especially like the double door entrance through a container box. Makes the entrance shady and keeps sneaky puppers from escaping (which mine always tries to do). It's not a park to hang out for a long day, but it's perfect for a quick romp to exert some energy.
