About the Dog Park

Glendale Open Space Trail Dog Park, located at 12300 S Havana St, Castle Rock, CO 80108, the dog park is a fantastic destination for dog owners. With a 1.6-mile loop trail, updated amenities including electric charging stations and porta potties, and a large, fenced-in area, it offers a fun and engaging environment for both dogs and their owners. The park provides beautiful prairie views and ample space for dogs to run and play.

Fencing

  • Fenced Area: The entire dog park is securely fenced, providing a safe environment for dogs to run off-leash. The large area allows dogs to explore and play freely without the risk of escaping.
  • Multiple Gates: The park features multiple gates, making entry and exit convenient and reducing congestion at peak times.

Distractions

  • Agility Course: There is a small agility course located at the top of the hill. This provides a fun activity for dogs to engage in, helping them to burn off energy and develop new skills.
  • Natural Terrain: The park’s natural terrain, including rolling hills and open spaces, offers plenty of areas for dogs to explore and enjoy. However, it also means there are few shaded areas.

Amenities

  • Parking: The park has two parking lots, one on the north side and one on the south side, each with ample space for vehicles. The north and south parking lots also feature porta potties.
  • Electric Charging Stations: There are two electric charging stations available for visitors with electric vehicles.
  • Restrooms: At least four porta potties are available in the park.
  • Walking Path: The upper half of the trail is paved, making it accessible for strollers and providing a smooth walking surface.

Pricing

  • Free Access: The park is open to the public at no cost, making it an affordable option for dog owners looking for a safe and enjoyable place to exercise their pets.

Cleanliness

  • Trash Facilities: While there are dumpsters available in the parking lot, the lack of trash cans along the trail means visitors often leave poop bags around the open space. This detracts from the park’s cleanliness and can be a health hazard.
  • User Responsibility: Visitors are encouraged to bring their own waste bags and dispose of them properly in the dumpsters.

Hazards

  • Natural Hazards: The presence of wild animals such as coyotes, prairie dogs, and snakes can pose a risk to dogs, especially in the open space trails where dogs must remain on leash.
  • Weather Conditions: The park’s lack of shaded areas and water features means it can get very hot during summer months. Owners should bring water for their dogs and visit during cooler parts of the day.

Extras

  • Playground: In addition to the dog park, there is a small playground area for children, making it a family-friendly destination.
  • Viewpoints: The trail offers beautiful views of the surrounding prairie and front range, providing a scenic backdrop for walks and runs.

Rules

  • Leash Rules: While the dog park is off-leash, dogs must be leashed in the surrounding open space trails to protect wildlife and livestock from a nearby ranch.
  • Well-Mannered Dogs: All dogs must be well-mannered and friendly to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone.

Community Safety Rules

  • Owner Responsibility: Owners are expected to supervise their dogs at all times and intervene if their pets become too aggressive or overexcited.
  • Peak Times: To avoid overcrowding, it’s best to visit the park during non-peak hours, such as weekday mornings or evenings.
  • Water Availability: Owners should bring their own water as there are no water sources available for dogs in the park, only bowls.

Glendale Open Space Trail Dog Park offers a vast, well-maintained space for dogs and their owners to enjoy. With its beautiful views, ample amenities, and focus on community safety, it is a wonderful spot for dog lovers in Castle Rock, CO.

Beautiful dog park filled with friendly dogs and mostly responsible pet owners. There is an accessible sidewalk as well as rock paths throughout. Two small huts and a stand of gamble oaks provide seating and shade. It’s a huge park with plenty of spaces for pups to play fetch, explore, and socialize with new friends. The native plantings are beginning to mature and fill in bare areas. The only cons are no water and the interstate noise.

It's been 2yrs since I've brought my pups and the open space has been updated. There is now North and South parking lots and entrances with added porta potties. They have 2 electric charging stations. The top portion is paved so you can walk your dogs and bring a stroller. The trail is a 1.6 mile loop. Beautiful views and the terrain is fun for the dogs to run around and play. Our dogs had a great time. Disappointed I couldn't find any trash cans on the loop only dumpsters in the parking lot. People were leaving poop bags around the Open Space. Please bring your own water. No water available, only bowls.

I was here for the trail, but want to come back with the dog later! The parking lot was great and can hold several cars if needed, it was not super busy when I was there on a Sunday late morning in September. The trail was a little washed out, but otherwise a great short easy trail. I enjoy trail running, and I don't think it would be fun for that in it's current state, but it was okay for a walk. Just in case you are curious, my watch says one lap starting on the north side and returning on the south side is about 150 feet in elevation gain. The view at the top was pretty cool, at least until they build houses in the distance. Wide open prairies, it was stunning!

Another great Open Space in DougCo. Quick 1.6 mile loop but a huge dog park next to both north and south parking. Great prairie and front range views.

This is such a great dog park! It is massive and has plenty of places for your dogs to explore. It's a nice loop trail that climbs a pretty steep incline. Definitely a good workout for you and your dog. Plenty of places to drop off poop bags throughout the loop. If you're looking for a beautiful place to hang out with Your pup I definitely recommend this place.
