About the Dog Park

Dog Leg Woods in Lakeland, FL, offers a spacious, well-maintained environment for dogs of all sizes. The park features separate areas for large and small dogs, ensuring a comfortable space for every pup. With ample shade, water stations, and plenty of seating for pet owners, it’s a perfect spot for a relaxing day out. The park is clean, with well-kept grounds and convenient amenities like poop bags and trash cans. Despite some concerns about fencing height, the overall experience is positive, making it a favorite among locals.

Fencing

  • The park is divided into two sections: one for small dogs (under 45 lbs) and one for large dogs (over 45 lbs).
  • Both sections have secure double-gate entrances, providing extra safety when entering or leaving.
  • The fence height in the large dog area is standard, but some users expressed concerns about it being too low for high-jumping dogs. This might be an issue for particularly active or agile dogs.

Distractions

  • Dog Leg Woods offers various areas to keep dogs entertained, including open grassy fields, shaded sections under large trees, and a sand pit for digging and playing.
  • The park is equipped with donated tennis balls, adding another layer of fun for dogs who enjoy a good game of fetch.
  • Although there isn’t any agility equipment, the diverse landscape provides plenty of natural stimulation and space for dogs to explore.

Amenities

  • The park is well-equipped with essential amenities, including multiple water fountains for both dogs and humans.
  • Poop stations with bags are conveniently placed throughout the park, along with trash cans to maintain cleanliness.
  • Benches are available in both sunny and shaded areas, allowing owners to relax while their dogs play.
  • A washing station is available for cleaning up dogs before leaving the park, which is particularly useful after playing in the sand or dirt areas.

Pricing

  • Dog Leg Woods is a public park, so there is no entry fee, making it an affordable option for dog owners in the Lakeland area.
  • Parking is free, though the parking lot is small, and there is a bit of a walk from the lot to the park entrance.

Cleanliness

  • The park is praised for its cleanliness, with well-maintained grounds and regularly stocked poop bags.
  • The city and dog owners play an active role in keeping the park tidy, which is evident in the overall appearance.
  • The lack of mosquitoes and fleas contributes to a more pleasant experience for both dogs and their owners.

Hazards

  • The main concern at Dog Leg Woods is the standard-height fence, particularly in the large dog area, which some owners feel may not be high enough for larger or more active dogs.
  • The park is located near a busy road, which requires caution when walking from the parking area to the entrance.
  • There are no restrooms on site, so visitors should plan accordingly.

Extras Rules and Community Safety Rules

  • Dog Leg Woods has a strong community of responsible pet owners who monitor their dogs’ behavior, ensuring a safe and friendly environment.
  • The park is busiest on weekends, making it a great time for dogs to socialize. However, some users prefer visiting during the week when it’s less crowded.
  • Owners are expected to clean up after their dogs and ensure they are well-behaved, especially in the presence of other dogs and people.

Dog Leg Woods is a well-loved dog park in Lakeland, FL, offering a safe, clean, and spacious environment for dogs to play and socialize. Despite minor concerns about fencing and parking, the park’s ample shade, water stations, and friendly community make it a top choice for dog owners. Nice sized park big enough to separate from more active dogs if you want as well as shaded and open areas. Plenty of poop stations and trash cans and grounds/grass areas are well taken care of.

This doggy park was very clean with lots of shade. The park is separated into large dogs over 45 lbs. and small dogs under 45 lbs. There is bags available for cleaning up after your dog on both sides. There is also a watering station for humans and push another button for the dogs. There is also a gated wash off hose to cleanup your dogs feet. I plan to visit this park regularly now that we have been.

It's a great space for dogs with a lot of shade. The large dog space is huge with more than enough for dogs to run and explore. There are several benches for sitting and there is even a little box with donated tennis balls to use at the park.
