About the Dog Park

Cottonwood Dog Park is located at N Redwood Rd & N Star Dr, Salt Lake City, UT 84116, United States. It is a well-maintained, large off-leash park with rolling grass lawns and numerous large trees providing ample shade. The park is next to the Jordan River Parkway, a network of biking and walking trails.

Fencing:

  • The park features one double-gated entry and two single-gated entrance points for secure entry and exit.
  • Fences are shorter than some might prefer, posing a potential escape risk for larger, agile dogs.

Distractions:

  • Proximity to the Jordan River Trail means there can be a significant number of mosquitoes, especially in warmer months.
  • There is no separate area for small dogs, so all sizes mix together in the same space.

Amenities:

  • Multiple benches and picnic tables are available throughout the park.
  • Free poop bags and garbage bins are located inside the fence at the entrances.
  • Numerous water bowls and water jugs are scattered around the park, with a fresh water pump available for refills.
  • No restrooms are available within the dog park area, but public restrooms are located near the children’s play area across the bridge.

Pricing:

  • The park is free to use.

Cleanliness:

  • The park is well-maintained with users generally responsible for cleaning up after their pets, contributing to a clean environment.
  • Rolling grasses are cut low, although some muddy spots can be found.

Hazards:

  • Shorter fences can pose a risk for larger dogs who may be able to scale them.
  • The park can get muddy, especially after rain, creating slippery conditions for both dogs and owners.

Extras:

  • The park is generally well-visited with friendly dogs and owners, contributing to a positive and social atmosphere.
  • The park’s large size and varied terrain make it suitable for running and playing, beneficial for high-energy dogs.
  • There is a paved path within the fenced area for jogging while dogs play, though it is only about 1/10th of a mile long.

Rules:

  • Dogs must be kept on a leash until inside the designated off-leash area.
  • Owners are expected to clean up after their pets to maintain the park’s cleanliness.
  • No separate area for small dogs means all sizes share the space, requiring owners to ensure their pets are comfortable with larger or smaller dogs.

Community Safety:

  • The park community is described as friendly and responsible, with minimal incidents of aggression or dog fights reported.
  • The abundance of water bowls and jugs encourages sharing and cooperation among park-goers.
  • It is recommended to park near 363 North Redwood Road and follow the path over the bridge to reach the dog park.

Park is a single area I would say is a big medium size. One double gated entry and two single gated entrance points. Free bags and garbage inside the fence at entrances. Rolling grasses (cut low), some muddy spots and one old paved path. The path is about 1/10th mile but the loop extends beyond the fence perimeter. Several benches, and tables, water dishes and fresh water pump. Many jugs of dog water throughout park. Lots of trees providing shade. All dogs and owners seemed nice. I didn't notice any abundance of poop.

This park is beautiful, one of the largest and most beautiful dog parks I’ve seen. It’s so well taken care of, with lot of trees, benches, and huge expanses to let your dog roam. I highly recommend going here. In addition this park links up with the Jordan River Parkway. A vast network of biking and walking trails and parks.

Beautiful little dog park with rolling lawn and large trees. One big area, no separate area for little dogs if you're looking for that, but the people that come here are almost always responsible and friendly. I've been coming here for about 3 years and never saw a single dog fight. No water, but there's bowls left here so bring a couple gallons to share.

Great place to take your dog. There's almost always gallon water bottles, and metal bowls around the park. I love taking my dog there. It's right next to the jordan river trail, so there's a lot of mosquitoes!
