About the Dog Park
Bonita Beach Dog Park, located at 8800 Estero Blvd, Fort Myers Beach, FL, is a hidden gem for dog lovers. This off-leash paradise offers a shallow, wave-free shore perfect for canine swimmers. Dogs and their owners enjoy a friendly, relaxed atmosphere with ample space for play. Despite occasional high tides and some cleanliness concerns, visitors appreciate the vibrant community and scenic beauty. Perfect for weekends or quieter weekdays, this beach promises a delightful experience for dogs and their owners alike.
Fencing
- Off-Leash Freedom: Bonita Beach Dog Park is an off-leash beach, allowing dogs to roam freely and enjoy their surroundings without the restriction of fences.
- Natural Boundaries: The beach itself serves as a natural boundary, with the ocean providing a limit to how far dogs can wander.
- Supervision Needed: Owners are responsible for keeping an eye on their dogs to ensure they stay safe and don’t venture too far, especially given the lack of physical fencing.
Distractions
- High Tide Challenges: High tide can make access to the beach more challenging, as it may require wading through water to reach the main area.
- Boats and Music: On weekends, boats, music, and food vendors create a lively atmosphere that can be both exciting and distracting for dogs.
- Wildlife Encounters: Dogs might encounter wildlife such as birds, which can be both a source of curiosity and distraction.
Amenities
- Parking: There is off-road parking available, although it can get flooded during high tide.
- Trash Cans: Conveniently placed trash cans help keep the area clean, but visitors are encouraged to take extra trash with them to maintain cleanliness.
- Porta-Potties: Basic sanitary facilities are available at the parking area.
- No Wash Stations: Unlike many public beaches, there are no shower or dog wash stations, so bringing your own water for rinsing off is advisable.
Pricing
- Free Access: The beach is free to use, making it an affordable outing for dog owners.
- Parking Fees: While the beach itself is free, be prepared for potential parking fees, especially during peak times.
Cleanliness
- Mixed Reviews: While many visitors appreciate the clean water and atmosphere, others have noted issues with litter and dog waste.
- Community Effort: Visitors are encouraged to help maintain cleanliness by picking up after their dogs and taking extra trash with them.
- High Tide Effects: The beach can sometimes appear less clean during high tide, as debris is brought in by the water.
Hazards
- Flooded Entrance: The entrance area can be flooded, requiring visitors to wade through water to access the beach.
- Dead Wildlife: Occasionally, dead wildlife such as birds can be found, which can attract dogs’ attention and require careful supervision.
- Off-Leash Risks: With no fencing, there’s a risk of dogs wandering too far or encountering hazards without immediate owner intervention.
Extras
- Weekends vs. Weekdays: Weekends offer a vibrant atmosphere with more people, boats, and activities, while weekdays are quieter and ideal for those seeking a less crowded experience.
- Community Vibe: The beach is known for its friendly community of dog lovers who understand and respect canine behaviors.
- Natural Beauty: The scenic beauty of the beach, combined with its shallow waters, makes it a perfect spot for both dogs and their owners to relax and enjoy.
Rules and Community Safety
- Off-Leash Regulations: Dogs are allowed off-leash, but owners must ensure their pets are under control at all times.
- Clean-Up Requirement: Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs to keep the beach pleasant for everyone.
- Respectful Behavior: The community expects respectful behavior from all visitors, both human and canine, to maintain a positive environment.
Bonita Beach Dog Park is a wonderful destination for dog owners looking for an off-leash beach experience. Its natural beauty, friendly community, and shallow waters make it an ideal spot for dogs to play and swim. 5 months agoIt's like a "hidden gem" , where sometimes to get there, you have to put some extra effort ( to get to the beach or to go back to parking lot) coz high tide will be there in the morning or later afternoon. Never seen any bigger incident between any dogs. Weekends are the best. Lots of people and dogs, lots of boats , music, beer boat, food boat. Also weekdays are great if you want less crowd. Beautiful area, great beach. My favourite beach in Florida. And if people complain about it being dirty and poop bags laying around, then next time help us out and take some extra trash with you when you leave and stop complaining here.

2 months agoLoved stopping here with my dog last month, July 2024. Met some cool dogs and some nice people. My pup loved exploring and seeing other dogs frolic in the water.

5 months agoMemorial Day 2024 was my first time visiting a Dog Beach. Everyone seems to get along with each other, clean water and atmosphere, and conveniently located outside FT. Myers. Thank you Bonita Beach for brightening my holiday

6 months agoBeautiful spot to stop and let your dogs play. One of the best parts about this location is that everyone we encountered is what I call a "real" dog person. Someone that doesn't cower when a dog barks someone that understands that some dogs are gonna growl and bark a little when they first meet because they are dogs and that's what they do. My incredibly sweet girl is very vocal and was trying to "save" people splashing around in the water... Everyone just smiles and knew she was having a great time. No nasty looks. Oh, and of course then location is really beautiful. The huge shallow sandbar makes for a perfect spot to anchor your boat for the day or park and walk in from the road. Highly recommend for other "real" dog owners!
