About the Dog Park
Friendship Dog Park, located at 12353 W McDowell Rd, Avondale, AZ 85392, features three gated areas designed for dogs of all sizes. The park offers water stations, poop bags, and trash cans, but its layout poses a challenge for small dog owners due to the distance from the parking lot.
Fencing
- Three Gated Areas: Separate spaces for different dog sizes ensure safety and allow for separation if needed.
- Secure Gates: The gated areas provide secure environments for dogs to play and interact safely.
Distractions
- Distance Challenges: The distance from the parking lot to the dog areas, especially the small dog park, can be inconvenient.
- Park Layout: Some users find the location of the dog areas within the park to be poorly planned, requiring a long walk even from handicapped parking spots.
Amenities
- Water Stations: Built-in dog water fountains are available in each gated area.
- Poop Bags and Trash Cans: Each area is equipped with cleanup bags and trash cans, although additional stations around the park would be beneficial.
- Play Area for Kids: The newly maintained play area for children adds to the park’s family-friendly appeal.
Pricing
- Free Admission: Friendship Dog Park is free to the public, making it an accessible option for dog owners in the area.
Cleanliness
- Well-Maintained Grounds: The fields and parking lot are clean and well-maintained, contributing to a pleasant experience.
- Lighting: Good lighting in the evening enhances safety and usability after dark.
Hazards
- Heat Exposure: In the summer, the walk from the far side of the park can be strenuous for both dogs and owners, emphasizing the need for shade and water.
- Aggressive Dogs: The park’s rules emphasize removing aggressive dogs to maintain a safe environment.
Extra Rules
- Aggression Policy: Owners are urged to remove dogs displaying aggressive behavior to prevent injuries and maintain a positive reputation for the park.
Community Safety Rules
- Liability Awareness: Owners are reminded of their liability for any injuries caused by their dogs, reinforcing the importance of responsible pet ownership.
Friendship Dog Park is a well-equipped and maintained facility offering separate gated areas for different dog sizes, ample amenities, and a family-friendly environment. However, its layout and the distance to certain areas can be challenging, especially in extreme weather. Ensuring safety and cleanliness while following community rules will help maintain its positive reputation.

11 months agoI took my dog to the dog park at Friendship Park for the first time. We were the only ones there when we arrived. I was surprised to see three separate dog park areas and I believe they all offered water, poop bags and trash cans. It was a decent area for the dogs, but I'm not a fan of where the dog area is situated in the park nor the walk from the parking lot to the dog area; even from the handicapped parking spot. Overall, it was a decent park but got super crowded and really emphasized that the location of the dog park areas should have been reconsidered.

6 months agoThe park is nice, but if you have a small dog, you have to walk a long distance to get to the small dog park...not sure of any solutions.

6 months agoMost of the times I’ve taken my dog there it’s seems like no one picks up after their dogs. Water doesn’t work sometimes and way too many dogs.

a year agoI take my dogs to the dog park there. There are three different gated dog areas so if you need to separate your dogs from others it's very possible. I had stopped taking them to this dog park because there were no doggie clean up bags but I see that they put one in each area. They still need to have more around the park however.

a year agoWe had the most unpleasant time at this dog park yesterday, first off the park itself is disgusting. Yes I know it’s a dog park but people really don’t pick up after their dogs! The water area for the dogs is very dirty (we went very early morning). To top it off there was a man with an Akita letting his dog be aggressive towards every single dog that would come in, this dog was being very aggressive towards every dog there and all the owner did was laugh. It was our first time there and we will not be going back.
