About the Dog Park

First Creek Dog Park, located at 10100 Havana St, Henderson, CO 80640, offers a mixed experience for dog owners and their pets. The park features an all-gravel surface, which facilitates easy cleanup but can be challenging to walk on and uncomfortable for dogs, especially in hot weather. The park is spacious, well-shaded, and equipped with ample benches, dog waste stations, and a porta-potty, but some areas lack water access as expected from the photos.

Fencing

  • The park is fully fenced, ensuring dogs can roam freely without the risk of running off.
  • Separate areas for small/timid dogs and larger dogs, with dedicated entry points.

Distractions

  • Several concrete tunnels and play structures provide engagement for dogs.
  • Shaded areas with dense trees and bushes outside the fence can be distracting as dogs might be more interested in exploring those areas.

Amenities

  • Numerous shaded benches are available for owners to sit and relax.
  • Multiple dog waste bag dispensers and trash cans distributed throughout the park.
  • Seasonal water fountain for dogs and humans.
  • Porta-potty located in the parking lot for visitors’ convenience.

Pricing

  • The park is free to use, making it an accessible option for all dog owners.

Cleanliness

  • The park is consistently maintained, with regular cleanups ensuring a tidy environment.
  • Despite the availability of trash cans, some visitors neglect to pick up after their dogs.

Hazards

  • The gravel surface can become very hot in summer, posing a risk of burning dogs’ paws.
  • Deep pea gravel can be difficult for dogs with sensitive feet or mobility issues.
  • The walk from the parking lot to the park can be muddy after rain.

Extras Rules

  • Dogs must be leashed while walking from the parking lot to the park gates.
  • Owners are expected to clean up after their pets, though compliance varies.

Community Safety Rules

  • Ensure dogs are current on vaccinations and not aggressive towards others.
  • Supervise dogs at all times to prevent conflicts and ensure safety.
  • Avoid visiting during peak heat times to protect dogs’ paws from hot gravel.

First Creek Dog Park is a mixed bag of convenience and challenges, providing a decent outdoor space with specific considerations for pet owners regarding surface conditions and amenities.

This dog park is amazing!! Gigantic space with lots of covered benches, water, fountain, and doggy bags! The surface is all Pete gravel so just be aware that if your dog has sensitive feet or bad hips that they might get tired very quickly. There is always sun and shade here, and a nice big parking lot with outhouse.

This park is just ok. I took our dogs here because the reviews were saying it was the best park and it was amazing etc and it's just ok. The park is all gravel which does make it easier to pick up dog poop but makes it very difficult to walk in. Also if it's very hot out it can burn your dogs feet. A lot of the photos showed water so we thought that the dogs would be able to swim but there was no water today (9/4) and didn't see a way to even access to water. On the plus side, there is a lot of shade and trees and benches to sit. There are also a lot of dog poop bag stations, as well as a porta potty.

The sign says that all dogs must be leashed, which is super confuse ! I thought it was a off leash area, I think the sign is wrong, is this a off leash area right? I leave my dogs being without leash and a crazy woman had a súper aggressive dog with her, the dog was on leash but she was super mad at me because my dogs were off leash, I was super confused because I thought it suppose to be a off leash area but at the rules says all dogs should be leash, (my dogs are friendly) but now I see here everybody let them be without leash. Wtf… aggressive dogs shouldn’t being allow on these places, even they are on leash

Nice clean park, pea gravel is thick and hard for people to walk on, but ideal for pups, it also helps with clean up. Good mature trees create good shade in sunny days. Mostly deserted after 6pm. I encourage you to try it.

Nice big dog park with plenty of benches, along with a doggie water fountain and multiple poop bag dispensers/poop receptacles! They also have a smaller area fenced off for small/timid dogs which is very thoughtful. In my experience this dog park is busiest starting around 6pm.
